Activities carried out during the year 2011/2012

Day of Recollection

‘In keeping with the Familian tradition, the PPA Committee begins each year by having a prayerful Day of Recollection, to seek God’s guidance and blessings for the year ahead.

As the new committee took over for the year 2011/2012, the annual events were commenced with the Blessings of the Lord, having a Day of Recollection on the 26th of March 2011. The Holy Mass was conducted by Rev. Fr. Jude Nixon, having a gathering over 100 participants including the committee, their families, friends, Rev. Sisters of the convent and teachers.

An interactive session which was conducted by Rev. Fr. Jude Nixon was admired and enjoyed by all participants.

Familian Fusion – Annual Social

The Familian Fusion in pink and purple theme was celebrated on the 4th of June 2011 at the ground floor of the auditorium, with a remarkable crowd of over 525 guests. Almost every Familian who graced the event was attired in pink and purple which brightened up the atmosphere.

The entire place was decorated with pink and grey balloons, purple floating candles and pink lotus flowers. The events of the evening started off with a prayer recited by Rev. Sr. Henrietta, and a beautiful welcome dance was performed thereafter by the troupe of Mrs. Sanjeevani Balasuriya, which enthralled the audience. A fusion dance added colour to the event. More than 20 valuable prizes were given away at the entrance ticket draw, with an air ticket as the first prize. All attendees were gifted goodie bags with loads of great items. In addition to that, six fun games were held where more gifts were given away. A special fire dance was performed to light up the evening and the delicious dinner which was by “Tasty Caterers” satisfied the taste buds of all.

The event, which was a great success, gave the opportunity to all past Familians to get-together and enjoy themselves.

Annual Picnic

Nearly 60 past Familians gathered near the staff room on 9th July 2011 to go on the picnic to Goldi Sands Beach Hotel, Negombo. The journey began with a snack which was served near the tuck-shop. All the participants enjoyed the exciting games which were organized by the committee to recall the happy days in school. For instance, during the “water balloon game” where the crowd was divided into 5 houses and were asked to pass the water balloon around without bursting it, the participants cheered as if they were once again school girls. After lunch, some senior participants rested for a while the younger generation had a dip in the pool. Later, everybody joined in the Nursery Rhyme Competition and also in the Baila competition. All loved the great buffet served by the hotel. The picnic came to an end at sunset after having tea. It was overall a wonderful opportunity for everyone to revitalize old friendships.

Fund Raiser – Variety Entertainment by the Gypsies together with Clifford Richards and a Fashion Show by Nadiya Iqbal

The Samudra Ball room of Hotel Taj Samudra was packed with an audience of 400, on Saturday, October 01st 2011 to witness the Variety Entertainment Show presented by the PPA.

A fabulous Sing-Along was presented by The “Gypsies” together with the versatile Clifford Richards. It was an evening full of fun, excitement and surprises.

There was a dazzling fashion show choreographed by Nadia Iqbal of “Nadiya Fashion Studio”where talented models displayed outfits designed by her, to add glamour to the event.

Tickets for the show were priced at Rs. 3,000/-. The profits from this fundraiser will be utilised towards the school development projects and for other specific projects identified by the PPA.

Celebrating Teachers’ Day

Teachers’ Day was celebrated on the 10th of October 2011 in appreciation and recognition of the tireless services of our beloved teachers. Cake and refreshments were served to all teachers, sponsored annually by the PPA.

Association of Past Teachers’ Association

They celebrated their teachers’ day on 23rd of October 2011 and PPA helped in organizing the event.

Teachers’ Inbound Training Programme

This was initiated by our principal Rev. Sr. Chandani Jayasuriya and was well supported and sponsored by the PPA. The activities were carried out by the President of the Welfare Association Mr. Rohan Pandithakoralage and his team at Aitken Spence. The inbound training programme was held on 25th October 2011 and 100 teachers, the president of the PPA President of the Welfare and few committee members were present.

Mother Annunciation Scholarship fund

As done annually, the PPA provided scholarships for deserving students in the school. The total contribution made during the year under review amounts to Rs 60,000/- A total sum of over Rs 1.5 million is accumulated in this fund.

In addition to the above, every year the PPA contributes towards the Annual Prize giving and Annual Sports meet.

Further PPA has been existence for the past 77 years with a remarkable membership of over 3000 past pupils who have exited the gates of the school. Each year we welcome new members to the Association. The main objective of the PPA is to actively support its school in numerous projects and events and uplift the standards and facilities in our beloved Alma Mater.
