Holy Family Convent is a leading Catholic girls’ school in Sri Lanka. It was established in the year 1903 by the Holy Family Sisters from Ireland with just 28 students. Presently it comprises more than 3500 students and 200 teachers.

The school consists of the collegiate school, the primary school and the nursery. The Principal of the school is Rev. Sr. Chandani Jayasuriya while the Principal of the primary school is Rev. Sr. Merita Fernando.

The school maintains a high standard in education, extra-curricular activities and also in discipline. The values of simplicity and concern for others, good conduct, courtesy and modesty are considered the hallmarks of a Familian.

When the school first opened, there were just 28 students and one classroom. Since then, it has expanded on a massive scale and now comprises more than 3500 students and 200 teachers.

The school consists of the College school, the Primary school and the Nursery. The Principal of the College is Rev. Sr. Chandani Jayasuriya, while the Principal of the Primary is Rev. Sr. Priyanthi Jayathunga.

The school has up-to-date facilities such as media rooms, computer labs, modernized science laboratories, aesthetic facilities, and comfortable classrooms.

In a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society our goal is to mould people who respect others and who can listen and dialogue with others, with care and concern. One of our main objectives is to help our students to acquire an understanding and appreciation of the cultural and religious heritage of the people of Sri Lanka, to discover the absolute values and insert them to their life framework.

Objectives

To promote an understanding and appreciation of the religious and cultural heritage of the people of Sri Lanka
To promote an understanding of the environment along with the knowledge, attitudes and skills relevant to the needs of life in a world with limited resources.
To help the students to discover the absolute values (which alone gives meaning to human life) and to insert them into their life framework.
To train them to form value judgments and acquire social and moral attitudes based on the Gospel teaching, especially the Beatitudes.
To ensure gradual maturing of the faith of our Christian students, which would lead them not only to a knowledge of Christ, but also to a personal commitment of their being to the person of Christ.
To ensure a gradual formation of conscience – to promote the ability to make inner-directed free options in the light of a well formed conscience.
To equip them to discover their place as active members of the community of women, and to foster those attitudes that such responsibility implies.
