| A vital artery of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, and the Past Pupils’ Association has helped Familians keep in touch with each other, and also with their beloved Alma Mater over the 75 years of its existence. Way back in the 1930's, on a suggestion made by Rev.Fr. Guegen, the Parish Priest of St Mary’s Church, Bambalapitiya at the time, the Association was inaugurated and was called the Past Pupils’ and not the “Old Girls Association” and so it remains to this day! At the inception there were only 20 members. The Association was inaugurated on 17th March (St. Patrick’s Day) 1934. Rev. Mother Gonzaga, Superior of the Convent was the first President with Mother Mary of Jesus as the Vice President. Mrs. Hazel Goonetilleke functioned as the first Secretary while Mother Antoinette was appointed as the first Treasurer. In 1948 Mrs. Consie Abeywardene was elected as the first Lay President of the Association. Many dynamic presidents have given leadership to the Association over the years and most of them have organized many successful fund raisers viz. carnivals, bazaars, charity dinners, exhibitions, coffee mornings, coffee evenings, dances, dramas, musical shows, raffle draws, fashion shows and Familian walks. The past pupils have always rallied around and helped the school whenever called the need arose. In 1933 when the chapel was built the magnificent Carrara marble altar was a gift from the past pupils at that time and another past pupil donated the tabernacle. In 1993 seats for the auditorium under construction was donated from the profits of the first ever “Familian Walk”. Substantial contributions were made by the PPA for the upgrading of the Home Science Room, Primary and College Libraries and Science Laboratories during recent years. The Association still continues to be a vital artery of its Alma Mater; making its contribution in many positive ways. Two members (President and a Vice President) of each current committee represent the Association on the Welfare Society each year. Many loyal past pupils, too numerous to mention have held office and served on other school committees like the Centenary Committee, over the years. They have given of their time, talents and finances and helped their Alma Mater in many ways. The Association records all these contributions with gratitude. The annual activities such as the Annual General Meeting and luncheon, the Day of Recollection, Social and Picnic are held during the year, together with other activities each committee decides upon. These strengthen the bonds between Familians and also their bonds with the school. | Patroness Rev.Sr.Kamala Dondeenu President 2009/2010 Mrs. Dedunie de Silva Vice Presidents Rev.Sr.Chandani Jayasooriya Rev.Sr.Priyanthi Jayathunga Mrs.Nirmaline J.
