| The Parent Teacher Association of the Holy Family Convent plays an active role in school activities and acts in an advisory capacity in the educational, spiritual, and cultural events of the school. The following are the projects that are currently being carried out by the PTA. A.) Website The PTA was instrumental in initiating the school IT club to update and upgrade the school website and the required guidance and expertise knowledge was provided. Currently the PTA is in the process of creating a data base called “PTA CONNECT” with the objective of using mobile phones and email as an efficient and quick mode of communication from the school to the parents. B.) Recycle Project Recycling as a method of reducing wastage and was an idea carried out by the PTA on a proposal made by the Rev. Sr. Principal. The PTA was also able to organize several seminars with the participation of eminent personnel to instill in the minds of the children the importance of preserving our environment. C.) Health Health camps are held annually conducted by the Ministry of Health at which the PTA plays an active role. Further, lectures on subjects such as nutrition and obesity, keeping fit and exercising are also organized. D.) Security Security of the school is another important aspect that the PTA is involved in. The following actions were initiated by the security sub committee in liaison with the school authorities and other relevant stake holders: A).Conduct of Mock Evacuation Drills for Teachers and Students B).Briefing of School Van Drivers and Guardians C).The briefing of the teachers and non-academic staff of the school and the parents on security concerns that prevail in the country and implications to the school, and the necessary steps to be taken in any crisis. D).Obtaining assistance from the parents on security-related issues at special school functions especially in the checking of bags. E).Liaison with school’s security authorities and Police of the Colombo region and obtaining their services during the opening and closing of school for traffic duties and other security-related issues. F).Continuous monitoring and upgrading of the school security system. E.) Sports The PTA sports sub committee has been working hand in hand with the sports council and have formulated plans in general to increase student participation in sports as there was a considerable drop across all sports. F.) Laboratory The construction and upliftment of the laboratories have been completed, handled by the Welfare society in collaboration with the PTA. The laboratories were declared open on the 6th of January after Holy Mass. G.) Academic Assistance Teacher Felicitation Programme A programme to felicitate the teachers who have served the school for over 25 years was held on the 6th of October 2008. On this occasion 13 teachers were presented with a Gold sovereign, a plaque and a photograph of the staff. This was held in collaboration with the Past Pupils’ Association of the School, '96 batch and well wishers. Seminars and Workshops Seminars and Workshops for students as well as for the teachers are organized by the PTA regularly to keep them updated and prepared for examinations and for other events. eg. The Life Education Programme for the O/L 2008 batch. H.) Library The Library Committee together with the Welfare Society, successfully completed the refurbishment of the Primary School Library, enhancing the available facilities by air-conditioning, computerizing and stocking the library with a wide range of books and other resources catering to grades 1-8.
