| As we all know ICT or Information Communication Technology is a word commonly seen and heard everywhere –particularly in education. A good way to think about ICT is to consider all the users of digital technology that already exist to help individuals, businesses and organizations that use information. Today we cannot step into society without the knowledge of ICT, because most of the activities are done using the knowledge of IT. Seeing the importance of this at HFC, ICT is a part of the school curriculum. The computer lab was newly built and opened for the first time in the year 2002, with the help of the PTA committee of that year. The lab was started with only 20 computers and now has a total of 42 computers. The school computer lab now provides many facilities to the students which enable them to gain more interest in the subject. There is a multi media projector which helps the teachers to do their practical sessions easily. Internet facilities have been provided to all computers so that students have a good understanding of modern technologies. All computers are connected to a school network so that information interchange between students is very effective. There is also a common printer and scanner. Classes from grades 08 and above are conducted at the college lab. Students can offer ICT for ordinary level examination and GIT for Advanced Level examination with the help of the college ICT teachers Ms. Nilanka Fernando and Ms. Dilini Jayasekara. This task is done successfully with the modern technology provided to the students. Here children learn to use application software’s such as Word Processors, Spreadsheet, Database and Presentation. They learn computer graphics like Microsoft Paint too. Further, they develop computer programming skills with the use of programming languages like Visual Basic. ICT is now a compulsory subject at Advanced Level because of its importance in society. This is developed to provide a broader understanding and further training so that students will be comfortable with the use of computers. This would indeed help them with their higher studies as well as their future careers. |
